Makes We Repair

Toyota Collision Repair in Medford, OR

Toyota collision repair in Medford, Oregon. We follow Toyota's repair procedures, coordinate sensor calibration, and match your paint. Free estimates.

Two Toyota SUVs came through our shop with nearly the same hit: a deep dent in the rear quarter panel. People buy Toyotas to keep them, and a lot of folks around the Rogue Valley are on their second or third one. That's part of why a wreck stings. You picked the vehicle because it was supposed to last.

Sky Auto Body is an independent, locally owned body shop on Sage Road in Medford. We repair Toyotas the way Toyota says they should be repaired, we handle the insurance side, and we'll tell you straight what your vehicle needs before any work starts.

Recent Toyota Repairs At Sky

Those two jobs give you a good picture of the work. Rear quarter panel damage is one of the most common hits on an SUV. Somebody backs into you in a parking lot, or a post jumps out while you're backing up.

Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road

This newer 4Runner came in with a deep dent and sharp creases across the rear quarter, running from the taillight to the wheel arch.

Toyota Grand Highlander Platinum

This Grand Highlander had a large dent pushed into the rear quarter between the taillight and the rear door.

On both of these SUVs, the rear quarter panel isn't bolted on. It's welded to the body, and it carries body lines that run into the doors, the taillight, and the liftgate opening. Getting those lines straight is what keeps the repair from showing. So is the gap around the taillight. If either one is off, people notice even if they can't say why.

Structural Repair Done By The Book

Toyota publishes repair manuals and position statements that spell out how its vehicles should be fixed. They cover where a panel can be sectioned, which welds to use, which parts can't be reused, and what has to be checked or calibrated after the work is done. We work from those procedures on Toyota repairs.

That matters most when the damage goes past the outer skin. Modern Toyotas use high-strength steels in the structure, and manufacturers across the industry say many of those steels can't be heated or pulled the way older steel could. When a structural part is kinked, the procedure usually calls for replacing it, not straightening it. We measure the body against factory dimensions so the vehicle ends up where it's supposed to be.

This is also a big reason repair bills have climbed and more vehicles end up totaled after crashes that used to be fixable. We walk through that in why cars get totaled so much easier now. For the rest of what goes into a collision job at our shop, see our collision repair page.

Toyota Safety Sense And Sensor Calibration

Most newer Toyotas come with Toyota Safety Sense. That's a camera behind the windshield and a radar sensor up front that run automatic braking, lane departure alert, and adaptive cruise control. Many models also carry blind spot radar in the rear bumper corners and parking sensors in the bumpers. When AAA tore into repair costs on 2023 models, the Camry it tested had 8 ultrasonic parking sensors on its own.

Those sensors are aimed within tight tolerances. A replaced bumper cover, a slightly bent bracket, or a new windshield can throw them off, and the dash won't always warn you. In an IIHS survey of more than 3,000 vehicle owners, nearly three-quarters of those whose vehicles were repaired after crash damage reported problems with their crash avoidance systems afterward.

More than a quarter of repair estimates nationally now include a calibration line, and a hit near the rear bumper corner, where many Toyotas carry their blind spot radar, is a common reason why.

When your Toyota needs calibration, we work with a calibration partner who handles the aiming and verification. We coordinate it, it goes on the estimate, and you don't have to set anything up yourself.

Paint Match On Toyota Colors

Toyota pearls and metallics can be tough to match. The same paint code can come out a little different from one production run to the next, and years of Southern Oregon sun change it again. Spraying the code off the door jamb isn't enough.

We mix to your actual vehicle, spray test cards and check them against the car, and blend into the neighboring panels when the color calls for it. Nobody standing next to your Toyota in a parking lot should be able to tell which panel was repaired.

Insurance And Your Right To Choose

We work with any and all insurance. You bring us the claim number, and we handle the estimate, the photos, and any supplements if we find hidden damage once things come apart. You'll know your deductible and what's covered before we start, and you won't be stuck carrying paperwork back and forth between us and an adjuster.

Your insurance company may suggest a shop. That's a suggestion. In Oregon, you pick who repairs your vehicle, and you can bring your Toyota to Sky no matter who your coverage is with.

Parts

We use OE parts on nearly every job. On a Toyota, that means parts built for your vehicle, with the fit and sensor mounting points that Toyota's repair procedures are written around. That matters more than it used to, because a bumper cover or bracket that sits a few millimeters off can throw off the sensors behind it. If your policy calls for something different on a non-structural part, we'll walk you through your options before any work starts.
